Obituary for a visionary and entrepreneur: Joachim Engelmann

It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to a man who had a key influence on the evolution of our family-run company: Joachim Engelmann, our highly esteemed managing director and founder, passed away on 13/12/2023 at the age of 84, following a brief and severe illness. His legacy encompassed six decades, during which time he built up our company with his tireless dedication and visionary thinking, establishing it as a cornerstone of the industry.

Born on 11 September 1939, Joachim Engelmann began his career with the company in 1964. As a young and ambitious engineer, he was swift to recognise the opportunities and challenges of the plant engineering sector. His infallible eye for innovation and his ability to identify the sign of the times played a key role in the evolution of our company to an internationally acclaimed player in the field of plant engineering.

Down-to-earthness and determination were his two most outstanding characteristics. In spite of the remarkable corporate success, Joachim Engelmann made key decisions in the interests of his employees. He knew all employees personally and was appreciative of constructive and clear interaction. This led him to create a corporate culture rooted in integrity, respect and trust.

Alongside his outstanding career achievements, Joachim Engelmann will also be remembered for his love of football. A passionate football enthusiast, he was not only an inspirational entrepreneur, but also a dedicated promoter of the sport. His love of football was reflected in his enthusiastic dedication to FC Erzgebirge Aue, which he supported in addition to numerous associations and social organisations.

His legacy will continue with the generations that follow. Joachim Engelmann not only created a company, but also a family of employees, partners and customers that will honour his memory.

We bow down in deep gratitude and respect before a remarkable man. Joachim Engelmann will always be remembered, and his influence will continue to be felt throughout every aspect of our company. The role of chairman of the board of management passes to his son Jörg Engelmann. The generational transition was already prepared a number of years ago and enshrined in a foundation. Together with Mike Niederstadt, they will continue the legacy of the founding father.
